Part eight of my Top 12 of 2012.
September 30, 2012: Carlyle
On the other side of the Mississippi this time, or actually in the middle of it, in Water Power Park overlooking St. Anthony Falls, the top of Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam, the Third Avenue Bridge, and downtown Minneapolis. The closest building is The Carlyle, the tallest residential building in Minnesota.
More happy side effects of the drought, as the low river revealed the rocks in the foreground, creating the still pool that gives character to the reflection of The Carlyle, as well as attracting waterfowl. The barge may be one of the last ever to come this far up the Mississippi, as efforts are being made to close Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam in 2013 in order to stop the spread of invasive Asian carp.
